Research

With fifteen years of experience of undertaking original historical research, I have the expertise to work with any project.

With my familiarity with a range of key sources at the National Archives and at local archives, including manorial, estate, family, ecclesiastical, legal, and government records, I can undertake research into a number of subjects. I have researched and written numerous pieces about local history in Lancashire, Wiltshire, Yorkshire, Gloucestershire, and Bristol, and am particularly knowledgeable about the early modern period, although I am available for researching other periods as well.

I spcialise in research on the south west of England, and am ideally based to carry out research on the area. Based in central Bristol, I am very close to the Bristol Record Office and Bristol Central Library, coveniently located for undertaking research in the city, in Gloucestershire, Somerset, and Wiltshire, and can travel to London to undertake research at the National Archives or other London institutions. With my background as an academic historian, I can undertake archival research for academics, and would also welcome enquiries from producers, publishers, writers, family historians, anyone else with an interest in researching the past.
